I was going through an interview with Richard Tarnas, about his bestselling history book, The Passion of the Western Mind, which I've found very interesting and thought good to share, at least part of it.
So, as Tarnas sees it, " we find ourselves today wandering disconsolately between two worlds — one dying and the other struggling to be born. On the one hand, the spiritual and intellectual certainties of the past, no longer command our allegiance.
On the other, the promises of a more integral worldview, a cosmology of tomorrow — one based on a deeper relationship with nature and with the larger cosmos — require a leap of faith, few of us are as yet willing to take. With the future of the human spirit and the future of the planet hanging in the balance, he says that we have no choice, but to embrace courage, imagination, and our deepest inner resources".
    How's that for a New Year's Resolution? Happy 2020! 🍃🍃 #naturalworld #survivingearth #planetearth

Seems to me that the end of the age of consumerism/capitalism (the "Capitalocene") is rapidly approaching; not by virtue of any conscious desire on our part but more as a result of our profligate use of our limited resources. Whatever comes next is anyone's guess but it's not going to be a gentle transition. I recently read What is America by Ronald Wright, the author of A Short History of Progress. Wright looks at the development of the national psyche, and examines how the frontier mentality of the wild west, as well as fringe religious movements, shaped the US empire and the modern world. It's basically a story about colonisation, genocide and greed. These forces have shaped our world but if we're to survive, we'll need to urgently overcome our basic programming, and work together to shape a new world. Happy 2020 Dincon, welcome to the future! 🌱  More ...
