The Powerful Owl, Ninox Strenua, is Australia's largest owl. It lives mainly in tall, humid forests but can also be found in semi-arid areas. Its range stretches across South-East Australia, from southern Queensland all the way to South Australia and includes urban areas in Melbourne and Sydney. Although not listed as threatened nationally under the EPBC Act, the owl's listed as vulnerable on the 2013 advisory list of threatened vertebrate fauna in Victoria and in NSW under the Threatened Species Conservation Act.
